How you can prevent Fire or Smoke Damage

12/31/2021 (Permalink)

Your primary focus should always be safety when protecting your home. You want to make sure it is safe to stay in your home after a fire. Electrical and "slip and fall" hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns.

Only complete activities that are safe for you to perform and remember wet materials can be very dangerous and heavy to work with. After the fire you may ask yourself; what can I do now to further protect my home? With the help of SERVPRO here are some options to help you with that protection. Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpets.

Keep hands clean so as not to further soil upholstery, walls and woodwork. Place clean towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery and carpet traffic areas. Clean and protect chrome with light coating of petroleum jelly or oil. Wash houseplants on both sides of leaves. Change HVAC filter and tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers.
